A boat with 21 migrants on board has wrecked near Panama. This was reported on February 22 by the news portal Minuto30.

"The National Border Guard of Panama confirmed the sinking of the boat in the waters of Guna Yala. On board were 21 people, including 19 Colombian and Venezuelan migrants, as well as two indigenous Panamanians, presumably the captain and his assistant," - reported the portal.

It is specified that according to the preliminary report, the accident occurred due to strong waves caused by bad weather in the region. Panamanian authorities have launched a rescue operation in the area of the boat crash.

It is reported that the whereabouts of the passengers remain unknown. The boat sailed on February 21 from the Dibin sector in the direction of Puerto Obaldia.

On February 6 off the coast of Nicaragua, five people died in the wreck of a boat carrying migrants. On board the ship were 17 people of Indian, Vietnamese, Egyptian and Iranian nationality, including six children. Earlier, on November 4, 2024, a boat with migrants from different countries capsized near the Comoros Islands in the Indian Ocean, killing at least 25 people.
