Ukraine has refused the USA to set up a $500 fund that would be part of an agreement giving Washington a part in the country's mineral wealth. This was reported by Bloomberg on February 22, citing a Ukrainian official.

According to him, the fund should provide the United States with compensation for the funds it has invested in Kiev. The Ukrainian side claims that the actual amount is five times less and amounts to about $90bn.

The agency's interlocutor also noted that another obstacle in the negotiations is the lack of guarantees from the US side on the future of military and financial assistance.

On the same day, the United States demanded 50 percent of revenues from ports and other infrastructure as part of an updated agreement with Ukraine on fossil fuels. Four current and former Ukrainian officials, speaking about the terms of the new proposal, confirmed to the media that the clause "remained unchanged."

US President Donald Trump said on February 21 that he had warned Ukraine of problems if it refused to sign the rare earth minerals deal. Later, the head of state expressed doubts about Kiev's availability of resources.
