Head of Marseille drug cartel arrested in Romania after escaping from prison


The head of the Marseille drug cartel Mohamed Amra was caught in Romania nine months after escaping from detention in France. This was announced by French Interior Minister Bruno Retaio on February 22.
On his X (former Twitter) page, he thanked Romania for its help in catching the criminal.
"I congratulate all the forces thanks to which Mohamed Amra was arrested today in Romania. My heartfelt thanks to Romania for its strong cooperation," he wrote.
Several hundred police officers in France on May 14, 2024, were sent to search for a prisoner whose escape in Normandy killed three prison officers. Unknown assailants shot up a prison van that was transporting 30-year-old drug trafficker Mohamed Amrou. As a result, he and his accomplices managed to escape.
