The condition of Pope Francis, who fell ill with pneumonia, remains critical, the pontiff needed a blood transfusion. This was reported on February 22 by the press service of the Holy See.

"The condition of Pope Francis remains critical, however, as already stated, the Pope is not out of danger. This morning, Pope Francis needed medical attention due to a prolonged asthmatic respiratory crisis, <...> also tests revealed anemia, which required a blood transfusion," - stated in the statement.

It is noted that the respiratory attack suffered by the pope also required the use of oxygen.

At a press conference at Rome's Gemelli Hospital, members of the pontiff's medical team said that he will stay in the hospital for at least another week, Vatican News noted. Doctors also added, the pontiff is still joking as usual and has even started working again.
