NATO is considering building a pipeline through Germany to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fuel to troops in the event of a military conflict with Russia. However, this project has a number of difficulties. The magazine Der Spiegel wrote about it on February 21.

The publication cites the example of the Polish airport in Rzeszow, where units equipped with Patriot surface-to-air missile systems are stationed. They use from 8,000 to 10,000 liters of fuel daily, which is delivered by gas tankers. In the conditions of a possible conflict, such supplies will be insufficient, especially for aviation.

According to the magazine, internal Bundeswehr documents point to "significant problems with the sustainable supply of fuel to the forces to be deployed on the eastern border in the event of an emergency." NATO has been aware of the problem since the Cold War and has previously established a pipeline system, but it ends in West Germany. Now the option of expanding the infrastructure to supply the alliance's eastern flank is being considered.

Earlier, on February 20, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called on the European Union to take urgent measures against the background of negotiations between Russia and the United States without European participation. Tusk also demanded to adopt new rules for EU funding and defense. In his opinion, all this should be done immediately.
