Vessel traffic through the Bosporus stopped due to snowfall


Traffic through the Bosporus Strait has been temporarily suspended in both directions due to snowfall. This is reported by the publication İşççi Haber with reference to the General Directorate of Coastal Security of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey.
"It is reported that heavy snowfall will continue in the coming days and intensify this afternoon. Many flights have been canceled due to wind and snowfall, also the movement of ships in both directions along the Bosphorus has been suspended," the material reads.
According to TRT Haber TV channel, "yellow" and "orange" danger levels were announced in 11 Turkish provinces in connection with the expected snowfalls in the morning of February 22.
On January 3, ship traffic through the Bosphorus Strait was temporarily suspended to search for a brother and sister who disappeared in November. On Nov. 23, 2024, a girl named Ayşe fell into the sea in Istanbul's Sarıyer district. Her brother Velat jumped into the water to save her. Both quickly disappeared from sight due to strong winds and waves.
Last December, ship traffic was blocked in the Bosphorus Strait due to the malfunction of the tanker Cordelia Moon, which malfunctioned while traveling from the port of Yalova to Russia.
