Many Americans who disagree with the policies of US President Donald Trump are moving to Madrid. The Financial Times (FT) reported on February 22.

"American citizens are seeking to settle in Madrid as Europe's trendiest capital becomes a haven for "refugees from the Trump regime"," the piece said.

GS Legal Consulting, which advises Americans on moving to Spain, told the FT that interest in the destination was striking.

The newspaper notes that US citizens are attracted to Madrid for its fine cuisine, local hospitality and sunny weather.

"The cost of living is also lower than in other major cities, including London and Paris. Americans with salaries or savings in U.S. dollars are thrilled that you can buy croissants for 55 cents in a Mercadona supermarket and a good wine for just €3," the FT writes.

Back on November 2, CNBC TV channel with reference to experts reported that 53% of American millionaires want to leave the U.S. after the presidential election. In addition, the number of wealthy Americans who want to leave the country has increased by 30% compared to 2023: they fear persecution and social unrest in any outcome of the vote.
