Fraudsters have come up with a new type of deception with Visa and Mastercard "refunds"

Fraudsters are sending fake SMSs about the return of full functionality of cards of foreign operators Visa and Mastercard in Russia. This was reported by Roskachestvo on February 22.

"Visa and Mastercard cardholders have started receiving SMS messages purportedly from Sberbank about the resumption of full functionality of their cards, including cross-border payments. The messages offer to undergo a time-limited "validation", - said on the website of the agency.

It is indicated that the attackers offer the user to follow a link that leads to a fake page of the bank. There, the victim enters his registration data or downloads a malicious program.

"It is necessary to understand that at the moment there is no official information about the resumption of Visa and Mastercard. <...> No official organizations <...> will not send out SMS with a request to follow the link to 'validate' the cards," stressed Sergey Kuzmenko, head of the Center for Digital Expertise of Roskachevo.
