The opposition Socialist Party of Moldova will seek the resignation of the country's President Maya Sandu in 2025. This was announced by former head of state Igor Dodon on February 22.

"Sandu should take an example from [Romanian President Klaus] Iohannis and resign," he said at a protest in Chisinau.

Sandu won the November 4, 2024 presidential election. She garnered 55.33% of the vote. At the time, the opposition Victory bloc said it would protest the election results because of fraud at foreign polling stations. In addition to "Victory" and the Social Party, the legitimacy of the Moldovan leader was not recognized by the Party of Communists, but the Constitutional Court approved Sandu's victory on November 28.

Former Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin called Sandu an illegally elected president in an interview with Izvestia on February 15, 2025. According to him, she failed to get a majority of votes in the republic, and at foreign polling stations, embassy workers, whom Sandu subsidized, voted for the head of state.
