Russians warned of a new type of fraud on behalf of software developers
Fraudsters have started calling Russians and presenting themselves as specialists of large software development companies. This was reported on February 22 by Andrei Biychuk, director of MTS' Defender product.
According to him, the attackers introduce themselves as technical specialists of the company-developer of antivirus or messenger. After they inform the victim that their system has detected suspicious activity on the interlocutor's devices and persuade him to urgently check personal data allegedly to prevent possible leaks.
Next, the scammers ask to turn on screen sharing and pretend as if they are setting up security. Such a move causes the victim to trust, said Biychuk "RIA Novosti".
After that, the attackers persuade to download a "protective" program, which is actually an application to provide remote access. Thus in the hands of fraudsters are any data from the smartphone, for example, banking data.
After that, the victim is informed about the need to change passwords, threatening the loss of the account and leaks. As a result, knowing the codes, the fraudster can transfer money from bank accounts.
"Official companies do not require remote access over the phone. It is better to call back to the company number listed on the website to confirm the information," Biychuk concluded.
February 20, in the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation warned of a new method of fraud with the code from the intercom.
It was specified that the attackers call citizens on behalf of the management company and inform them about the imminent replacement of the entrance door. After discussing the details, the callers ask to dictate the personal code sent to the person on the phone - with the help of it the significant data of the citizen gets to the swindlers.
