A citizenship stamp in a child's birth certificate is not mandatory, but may be required, for example, to receive maternity capital. This was reported on February 22 in the Main Directorate for Migration Issues (MDMA) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

It was specified that the certificate certifies the identity of the child up to 14 years old, but does not confirm the citizenship of the Russian Federation, as it is also issued to foreigners born on the territory of the country.

Confirmation of the citizenship of a child under 14 years of age is a mark indicating the acquisition of Russian citizenship, a certificate of acquisition of Russian citizenship at birth, the Russian passport of the child, as well as the passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation of his parent, in which information about children is entered.

"The mark is placed on the back of the birth certificate or on the text-free field of the Russian translation of the foreign document certifying the registration of the child's birth. <...> In 2025, the mark is still not mandatory, and there is no fine for its absence. But there are cases when it may be required", - said in the message published in the Telegram-channel.

It was specified that the corresponding stamp may be required when a child is registered or deregistered at the place of residence, as well as when issuing a passport, including a foreign passport.

In addition, the stamp will be needed to receive maternity capital, to travel to Abkhazia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and South Ossetia, if the child does not have a Russian passport or the Russian passport of the child's parent does not include information about the child, as well as for subsidized air tickets.

The stamp can be issued at a territorial body of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, at the Passport and Visa Service unit of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, and at the Sakharovo Migration Center in Moscow. Abroad it can be done in Russian embassies and consulates.

February 16, the Ministry of Internal Affairs clarified the conditions for issuing two passports. Thus, Russian citizens have the right to have two relevant documents, if one of them will be biometric. The ministry noted that biometric passports store fingerprints and a photograph in a chip sewn into one of the pages of the document.
