The government has authorized the use of biometrics for boarding trains

From September 1, 2025, Russians will be able to use biometrics for ticketing and boarding long-distance trains. This follows from the government decree, posted on February 21 on the website of official published legal acts.

Thus, now, when issuing tickets for long-distance trains, passengers will be able to undergo the procedure of identification and authentication using the federal state information systems ESIA.

It is specified that this is possible if the railway carrier has the appropriate technical capabilities.

It is noted that the relevant decree comes into force from September 1, 2025

Earlier, on February 17, the Russian government allowed the use of biometric data for boarding the train. It was noted that the service will be available to users of a unified biometric system. At the same time, other methods of boarding the train will remain in place.
