The Ukrainian authorities believe that the agreement on rare-earth metals between Kiev and Washington needs to be finalized. This was reported by the Public.Novosti TV channel on 21 February, citing sources in the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The publication notes that the elaboration of the agreement was carried out all night, while there are still points that need to be discussed.

"The teams worked last night, until the morning. And to say that the draft rare earth agreement with the United States has improved in the interests of Ukraine is premature. From a security point of view, there are still certain issues that need to be finalized," the TV channel quoted the source as saying.

On the same day, the Assistant to US President Donald Trump on national security Mike Waltz said that Zelensky will sign an agreement with the United States on minerals.

Earlier, on February 20, it was reported that Trump may try to conclude a simplified agreement on receiving minerals from Ukraine. On the same day, he said Kiev had derailed the rare earth metals deal. According to him, the USA handed over $350 billion in aid to Ukraine and now cannot get the money back.
