Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan sign agreement on border delimitation

The head of the State National Security Committee (SNSC) of Kyrgyzstan Kamchybek Tashiev and his Tajik counterpart Saimumin Yatimov on Friday, February 21, signed a document on delimitation of the borders of the two states. This was reported by Economist.kg with reference to the Kyrgyz government.
"We have prepared several documents for further signing by the presidents of the countries: this is a border agreement, an agreement on water and energy facilities and an agreement on the use of cross roads and the construction of new roads," Tashiyev said at the signing.
He called it a historic day for Kyrgyz and Tajik citizens.
For his part, Yatimov said the sides have brought a very difficult job to completion. If the treaty is implemented, it will put an end to a century-old dispute between the two republics.
The publication recalled that Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have a common border more than 970 kilometers long.
Earlier, on December 4, 2024, Dushanbe and Bishkek completed the description of the disputed parts of the border. The meeting of government delegations on delimitation and demarcation in the city of Batken in Kyrgyzstan was held in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding.
Before that, in early May, there was another incident of incomplete delimitation on the border of the two republics. There was a conflict between Tajik shepherds herding cattle near the border and Kyrgyz border guards , which ended in a shootout. One of the Tajiks was wounded.
