Mining University and BelAZ opened two laboratories in St. Petersburg

The St. Petersburg Mining University of Empress Catherine II hosted the opening of two new laboratories that will work on ensuring environmental friendliness and safe operation of BelAZ's electric-driven quarry machinery. The ceremony was held on February 21 by State Secretary of the Union State Dmitry Mezentsev.
The laboratories "Autonomous electromechanical systems of electric drive of mining machinery" and "Onboard systems of BELAZ machinery" will start their work in St. Petersburg.
"With this we confirm the special practice of interaction, emphasizing them in the formats of the Union State," said Mezentsev.
The event included the first launch and demonstration of the electric motion system on the basis of a 90-ton dump truck "BelAZ", which includes an intelligent control system for automated electric drives of electric motion.
In addition, BelAZ and the St. Petersburg Mining University of Empress Catherine the Great signed a strategic agreement, which they called "an investment in youth and partnership between Russia and Belarus". The company supplies its dump trucks to Russia from Stavropol to Sakhalin. The latest joint project is a hybrid that runs on a new type of fuel - hydrogen.
Earlier, on February 12, Mezentsev noted the serious contribution of scientists from the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center (NRC) and the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) to joint Russian-Belarusian scientific projects. He thanked their teams for their response in expert work on the proposals received as a basis for future SG programs. According to him, this is confirmed by the decision of the Union State on the formation of a common scientific and technological space until 2030. He also recalled that Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko decided to establish the SG Prize for young scientists.
