On Friday and the next weekend, February 21-23, the State Automobile Inspectorate will conduct mass and "solid checks" of drivers, special attention will be paid to the suppression of drunk driving. Regional departments of the agency announced about the upcoming raids.

Traffic police will conduct preventive measures on the roads of St. Petersburg and Leningrad region, on the highways in Tver, Lipetsk, Ulyanovsk, Kirov, Samara, Ryazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Penza regions, Komi Republic, Jewish Autonomous Region and other regions of the country.

On the eve of the weekend, the State Automobile Inspectorate reminds drivers of the inadmissibility of driving while intoxicated. Mass checks on Russian roads to identify drivers who sat behind the wheel after drinking alcohol are carried out on weekends by traffic inspectors on a regular basis.

"Seeing that a person in a drunken state gets behind the wheel, behaves inadequately, creates dangerous situations on the road, do not remain indifferent - report it to the police. Employees of the State Automobile Inspectorate will definitely take all necessary measures to respond to such reports", - said "Izvestia" deputy head of the propaganda department of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, police colonel Anton Belan.

He emphasized that drunk driving is in itself dangerous and unacceptable. And taking into account the additional risks that the winter road carries, the driver in a state of intoxication and his passengers have not even the slightest chance to safely complete the trip. In addition, such behavior endangers the lives of other road users, Belan noted.

The traffic police reminded that driving a car in a state of intoxication, as well as the refusal of medical examination entails the deprivation of a driver's license for a period of one and a half to two years and a large fine. In addition, in some cases, the driver may face criminal liability for these acts.

Earlier in the day the State Automobile Inspectorate of Moscow announced that it will conduct targeted raids on the roads of the capital, which will last until the end of the weekend. The department noted that since the beginning of the current week traffic police officers brought to responsibility more than 250 drivers for driving with signs of intoxication.
