Expert gives advice to Russians who have decided to ask for a pay rise


Employees of companies that want to improve their financial well-being may sometimes consider asking for a salary increase. Anastasia Alekseeva, HR director of the DIDENOK TEAM communications agency, told Izvestia on February 22 how best to do this.
She noted that material motivation is one of the integral components of any employee's work and development. In an ideal professional world, an employer should take a proactive stance in terms of annual financial growth of each team member, based on their personal results, fulfillment of KPIs and taking into account market realities. In order for the approach to be systematic, the practice of annual evaluation and analyzing the fulfillment of predetermined goals is usually used.
But due to various circumstances, sometimes the employee himself should take the initiative. According to the expert, you should not save up negativity or immediately update your resume if other aspects of the job are satisfactory.
"If you realize that your current income has ceased to meet your expectations, help to notice it and your management - boldly enter into a dialogue," advised Alexeeva.
In order for the request to be satisfied with the highest probability, the expert recommended collecting information that will become arguments. Thus, you should prepare a presentation or report on the work done over the year with clear measurable results. It is necessary to show which indicators have been exceeded.
Special attention should be paid to proactive actions, assumed responsibility, which exceeds the standard duties. Perhaps the employee has figured out how to optimize the work of his colleagues, to reduce the time of routine tasks, or, for example, he managed to significantly expand the pool of clients, which allowed to exceed the plan by several times.
In addition, Alexeeva advised to collect feedback from the closest colleagues in writing, analyze the average cost of their position on the market, and talk about their plans for the new period: what there is ambition for and how these ambitions can be useful to the business in the future.
"Having collected all this data, initiate a meeting with your manager and present it confidently. It makes the most sense to do this at the beginning of the year, when the past results are already evident. If you manage to keep the right tone and competently talk about your achievements and goals - it will certainly be a reason to revise your income or at least to form a specific career track, which will lead to an increase," - emphasized Alexeeva.
Earlier, January 15, it was reported that every third Russian respondent (28%) planned to change jobs in 2025. This was stated in the results of the study of the Russian School of Management. Among the most frequent reasons for such a decision are named low salary (47% of respondents said so), lack of opportunities for professional growth (45%), lack of career prospects (39%).
