- The Ministry of Construction approved new rules for construction of railroad tracks in the Arctic

The Russian Ministry of Construction has changed the basic provisions for designing railroads in permafrost areas. The updated document establishes technical requirements not only for the construction of new lines, but also for the reconstruction and overhaul of existing ones, the press service of the ministry reports.
The rules are developed and implemented to ensure year-round transport communication with remote and hard-to-reach areas, including settlements in the Arctic, Siberia and the Far East, writes IA "Beeport".
Thus, new technologies and materials, depending on the conditions of construction, allow to reduce up to 1.5 times the volume of earthworks. Also in the set of rules specified requirements for monitoring of objects, which will improve the safety of the use of infrastructure facilities without excessive costs.
Earlier "Izvestia" wrote that Arctic railroad units will appear in the Northern Fleet. They will be engaged in the repair and maintenance of tracks in the Polar region. The first company has already been created, and based on the experience of its work, the Defense Ministry plans to increase the number of such units.
