Zakharova thanked colleagues from Russia and Mexico for the child's return to Moscow

On February 21, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova thanked her colleagues who helped return home a three-year-old boy from Russia, who was abandoned by his parents in Mexico.
The child was left by his mother in the summer of 2024 in one of the hotels in the city of Piedras Negras. The woman, along with other members of her family, illegally crossed the U.S. border, where the entire group was detained. To date, the mother of the child is in a detention center for illegal migrants.
At the end of seven months of work, the consular section of the embassy together with the competent authorities of the two countries managed to resolve the issues of the boy's return to Russia.
"Many thanks to Mexican colleagues, as well as a low bow to the institution of Russia's child rights ombudsman and personally [Russian Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights] Maria Lvova-Belova for professionalism and hot (burning) hearts," Zakharova wrote in her Telegram channel.
The diplomat called it a "happiness" to work in a team of people who care.
In November 2023, an elderly Russian woman Valentina Kotova, who was abandoned on the threshold of the consulate in Mexico City by her son and his wife, was returned to Moscow. The woman flew to Moscow's Domodedovo airport, and the consul on duty provided her with all the assistance she needed.
