The political dialog between Moscow and Washington is a manifestation of common sense and deserves respect. Roberto Messuti, a deputy from the ruling coalition in Venezuela's National Assembly, told Izvestia on February 21.

"The rapprochement between Russia and the United States seems positive to me. The dialog between the countries deserves applause from everyone who wants peace, who believes in the sovereignty of each country and respects the decisions of all peoples. "We should be optimistic about how a giant like Russia and the bellicose US empire recognize each other's existence," Messuti told Izvestia.

At the same time, when asked whether the dialog between Moscow and Washington would facilitate the lifting of sanctions on Venezuela, he noted that it is unlikely to happen.

Caracas has been under U.S. sanctions for a long time. On February 19, Donald Trump called Venezuela an enemy of the United States. The US President recalled that in his first presidential term he imposed sanctions against Caracas, but the administration of former President Joe Biden began buying oil from the Latin American state "for billions of dollars".

At the same time, Venezuela continues to be an important strategic partner for Russia. In November 2024, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko invited Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to come to Russia in 2025 to sign a treaty on strategic partnership and cooperation between the two countries
