The Russian Foreign Ministry notified Lithuania of the termination of consideration of requests for personal documents of citizens

The Lithuanian embassy has been informed that its requests for personal documents of citizens have been discontinued. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry on February 21.

They noted that for a long time the Russian Federation and Lithuania sent each other free of charge documents on civil status registration, period and length of service on requests received in the diplomatic order. However, since the beginning of 2024, the Lithuanian side stopped responding to requests from the Russian embassy in Vilnius.

"Based on the principles of reciprocity, the Lithuanian Embassy in Moscow has been informed that the Russian side has stopped considering requests to request personal documents of citizens," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in its Telegram channel.

At the same time, it is specified that for citizens in the territory of Lithuania can apply to the Russian Embassy with an application in the order established by the order of the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Russian Ministry of Justice.

On January 29, the government of Lithuania approved the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country to extend national sanctions against the citizens of Russia and Belarus until May 2, 2026.

As a result of the restrictions, the process of considering requests of Russians and Belarusians for temporary residence permits in Lithuania was suspended. In addition, Russian citizens are prohibited from buying real estate in the country, bringing cash in Ukrainian hryvnias, as well as registering an electronic resident status.
