Since the beginning of 2025, tomato production in Russia has increased by 2%

Since the beginning of the year, greenhouse tomato production in Russia has increased by 2%, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture reported on February 21.

"Since the beginning of 2025, 149.1 thousand tons of greenhouse products have been harvested in the organized sector. Including the harvest of tomatoes amounted to 59.7 thousand tons. This is 2% more than the indicator for the same period last year," the ministry said.

Thus, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, a number of Russian regions have significantly increased the production of protected vegetables. Among them are the Stavropol, Perm and Krasnodar regions, Voronezh, Kaluga and Leningrad regions.

"The development of greenhouse vegetable growing in our country is facilitated by a set of support measures at the federal level. In addition, some regions additionally support greenhouse enterprises within the framework of the federal project for the development of vegetable and potato growing", - explained in the Ministry of Agriculture.

They believe that the existing measures help to build new high-tech complexes and modernize capacities. Modern greenhouse enterprises are equipped with new generation equipment with the use of artificial intelligence.

For example, specialists of the state-owned company ROST have developed their own innovative ecosystem based on artificial intelligence (AI) - Digital Agronomist. It ensures in an automated mode the maximum efficiency of all greenhouse systems and optimizes the work of personnel. In addition, companies in the industry are paying more and more attention to domestic varieties, which allows them to obtain stable yields. In the greenhouses of GC "ROST" in 2024, the volume of tomato production of Russian varieties amounted to more than 5 thousand tons.

On the eve of the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture reported that Russia recorded growth in meat production. Thus, in 2024, the production of livestock and poultry for slaughter in farms of all categories increased by 2.1% and reached 16.9 million tons.
