Lavrov: new balance of power became the topic of Russia-US talks in Riyadh

Representatives of Russia and the United States at the talks in Riyadh discussed the fact that it is time for the West to accept a new balance of power in the world. This was reported by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on February 20.

"It is time for the West to accept a new balance of power and start building relations with the World Majority States on the basis of mutual respect. We also talked about this with our American colleagues in Riyadh and agreed on the main point: international relations should be built on the basis of recognizing the presence of each country's national interests," he said at the G20 meeting in Johannesburg.

He also noted that there should be no hostile bloc politics in a multipolar environment.

Who ignored the meeting and with whom Sergey Lavrov held talks

Earlier, on February 20, Lavrov arrived in Johannesburg to participate in the G20 foreign ministers' meeting. The G20 presidency passed to South Africa from Brazil on December 1 last year.

Thetalks between the Russian and U.S. delegations took place at one of the royal family palaces in Riyadh on Tuesday, February 18. Lavrov called the talks between Russia and the US useful. The Russian Foreign Minister specified that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized the importance for each state to be guided by its national interests. The Russian side expressed full agreement.
