US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy lied when he said that he had refused a deal on rare-earth metals. He said this in an interview with journalist Catherine Herridge on February 21, which was published on the X social network (former Twitter).

According to Rubio, the Ukrainian leader said that he agreed to conclude the deal, but it is important to approve it through the legislative process. The United States Secretary of State noted that a few days later he learned from the news that Zelensky had turned down the offer.

Rubio emphasized that initially the President of Ukraine was in agreement with the conduct of the deal.

Earlier, on February 20, it was reported that US President Donald Trump may try to conclude a simplified agreement to obtain rare earth minerals from Ukraine. The move comes in the context of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's rejection of a previous US offer under which the United States would have received 50 percent of the country's key minerals, including uranium, titanium, and lithium, which is a key component in electric car batteries.
