Russia tops the list of suicides in Eastern Europe


Russia is one of the leaders in Eastern Europe in the number of suicides with an indicator of 19.9 cases of suicide per 100 thousand population. This became known according to the results of a study published in the scientific journal The Lancet Public Health.
Thus, the Russian Federation is currently in second place in the top countries of Eastern Europe in the number of suicide episodes, while the first place in Eastern Europe was taken by Lithuania. In the former Soviet republic there are currently 20.6 suicides per 100 thousand people.
At the same time, the researchers emphasized that in the world as a whole for 30 years, mortality from suicide attempts fell from 15 to nine cases per 100 thousand of the world's population.
In the spring of 2024, the Muscovite was sentenced to two years for attempts to induce a schoolgirl to suicide. It is specified that the defendant specially bought a page in the social network "VKontakte" and began to write to the child on behalf of a non-existent person. He introduced himself as the curator of the community "Blue Whale" and persuaded the minor to take part in the allegedly conducted "game" with a number of tasks, the last of which was to commit suicide.
