French President Emmanuel Macron has said that it is currently impossible to reach a consensus on the creation of a common European Union (EU) army. He said in the social network X (former Twitter) on February 20.

"Probably a common army should be our goal. But our political systems are very different today. Will there be a consensus today? I don't think so," the French head of state said.

In addition, he noted that he had talked a lot with partners from the UK about sending the military to Ukraine to guarantee security after a possible peace deal. According to Macron, now this issue is not raised, but such a turn of events can not be excluded.

Before that, on February 18, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said that the German military would not be sent to Ukraine in the "hot phase" of the conflict. Lithuanian presidential foreign policy adviser Asta Skaisgiritė said that Vilnius would like to help Kiev with its instructors, but now Lithuania is not talking about sending military contingents. The politician said that European countries should think about the safety of their soldiers.
