Lavrov and Turkish Foreign Minister discuss efforts to stabilize Syria


Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan in Johannesburg during the G20 summit of foreign ministers, during which they discussed the stabilization of the situation in Syria. This was reported by the Russian Foreign Ministry on February 20.
The ministers discussed key issues on the bilateral agenda, including cooperation in the trade and economic sphere. They also exchanged views on international and regional topics.
"Special attention was paid to the coordination of efforts of the two countries to further stabilize the situation in Syria. Sergey Lavrov informed his Turkish counterpart about the results of the Russian-American contacts held in Riyadh," the Russian Foreign Ministry website said.
Lavrov arrived in Johannesburg on February 20 to participate in the G20 foreign ministers' meeting. The presidency of the G20 passed to South Africa from Brazil on December 1 last year. Earlier in the day, the Russian foreign minister held a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, during which he agreed on the visit of the Chinese foreign minister to Moscow.
Lavrov then held talks with Indian Foreign Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar, during which they discussed developments around Ukraine. They also synchronized their watches on the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS.
The previous G20 summit was held on November 18-19 in the Brazilian capital and was dedicated to "building a just world and a sustainable planet." The Russian delegation at the summit was also headed by Sergey Lavrov.
