India's foreign minister says he discussed events in Ukraine with Lavrov

Indian Foreign Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar held talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov during the G20 foreign ministers' meeting in Johannesburg, during which they discussed the events around Ukraine. The Indian Foreign Minister said this on February 20 on his page in the social network X (former Twitter).

According to Jaishankar, he was very happy to meet with the Russian foreign minister.

"Reviewed further progress of bilateral cooperation between India and Russia. Discussed the latest developments regarding the conflict in Ukraine, including the meeting in Riyadh," he gave details.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also added that the sides during the talks agreed on the high level of development of the dialog between Moscow and New Delhi and the results of cooperation in various fields. The heads of the agencies confirmed the directions of their further work based on the agreements of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their meetings in Moscow and Kazan in 2024.

"The ministers synchronized their watches on issues related to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the BRICS association, discussed the development of the situation around Ukraine, including assessments of the approaches of various countries," the Russian Foreign Ministry's website added.

The two countries' counterparts also exchanged views on the situation in the Asia-Pacific region (APR) and the problems of Eurasian security.

Lavrov arrived in Johannesburg on February 20 to participate in the G20 foreign ministers' meeting. South Africa took over the G20 presidency from Brazil on December 1 last year. Later, the Russian foreign minister held a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, during which he agreed on the visit of the Chinese foreign minister to Moscow.

The previous G20 summit was held on November 18-19 in the Brazilian capital and was dedicated to "building a just world and a sustainable planet." The Russian delegation at the summit was also headed by Lavrov.
