In India, a powerlifting champion died while lifting a 270 kg barbell


In the Indian state of Rajasthan, 17-year-old powerlifting champion Yashtika Acharya died while lifting a barbell, The Times of India reported on February 19.
The publication noted that the incident occurred while the athlete, who won a gold medal at the Youth National Games, was performing squats with a 270 kg barbell. The barbell fell on the girl's neck, causing injuries incompatible with life.
The athlete was taken to the hospital, where medical personnel stated her death.
Earlier, on January 28, at the competitions in athletics in the American state of Colorado, a spectator was killed by a hammer thrown by a high school athlete.
