Fraudsters swindled $5.5 thousand from a teenager under the pretext of updating the school electronic diary. This was reported by the source of "Izvestiya" on February 20.

First, a "school teacher" contacted the young man and asked him to name the code from the SMS, referring to the need to update the electronic diary. After that, the attackers called the schoolboy several times under the guise of employees of "Gosuslugi", Rosfinmonitoring and the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.

The criminals told the 15-year-old that his account on "Gosuslugi" was allegedly hacked and that money had been transferred from his mother's account to third parties.

"[The fraudster] said he would help him sort everything out, asked him not to tell anyone about it, otherwise his parents could be put in jail," the agency's interlocutor specified.

The schoolboy agreed and gave the courier $5.5 thousand (about Br500 thousand), which were kept in a dresser in the parents' bedroom.

The fraudsters then tried to ask the boy for the password to his mother's phone and bank apps, but were unsuccessful.

"[The perpetrator] said that then the money would not be returned to him," the source added.

A criminal case has been opened.
