Russia is working on the issue of introducing a ban on the distribution of surrogates of child restraint devices (CRDs) for cars on marketplaces. Roskachestvo said it is working on this issue together with Rosstandart and State Duma deputies, TASS reported on February 20.

Restraining devices for children must comply with UNECE rules N44-04. However, such products are in circulation on marketplaces on the territory of the Russian Federation. These are devices offered as an alternative to ROVs, for example, "correctors of seat belt straps", "guiding straps", "adapters", "triangles" and others, the organization said.

It is noted that unscrupulous sellers sell surrogates CRS including as "accessories for children". The organization pointed out that such products pose a risk to the life and health of children when used.

February 19, it was reported that at the end of 2024 in Russia on two popular marketplaces totaled 291.5 thousand plugs for seat belts for the amount of more than 84.5 million rubles. Compared to 2023, sales of seatbelt plugs increased by a third.

On the same day, Anton Shaparin, vice-president of the National Automobile Union (NAU), said that Russia should increase responsibility for the deliberate refusal to wear seat belts. It is necessary to consider amendments to the legislation, which would force injured drivers, if they did not wear seat belts and suffered in an accident, to pay for medical services at their own expense, the interlocutor believes.
