Lula da Silva spoke about Scholz's attempts to buy weapons for the AFU from Brazil

FRG Chancellor Olaf Scholz tried to buy weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) from Brazil in 2023, but did not receive anything. This was told by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at a press conference with Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro on February 19.
"I remember that Prime Minister (Chancellor. - Ed.) Olaf Scholz once came and tried to buy Brazilian weapons to give them to Ukraine. I don't plan to sell weapons to kill Russians or anyone else," Lula da Silva said, his remarks broadcast on the Brazilian government's YouTube channel.
Scholz visited Brazil in January 2023.
The Brazilian president emphasized that the republic will continue to remain neutral and Kiev's allies will not obtain weapons for it. Lula da Silva recalled that he favors peace.
Earlier, on February 18, the German government said that it would provide Ukraine with a new military aid package. It will include 56 MRAP armored vehicles, missiles for short- and medium-range systems, shells for tanks, almost 600 attack and reconnaissance drones and other equipment, small arms, wool blankets and tourniquets for bandaging.
At the same time, Scholz said on February 17 that Berlin will be able to support Kiev only if a decision is made on separate aid funding: the citizens of the FRG will not approve cuts in the federal budget or investments in the country's infrastructure.
Before that, on December 19, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin described the peace initiatives of China, Brazil and South Africa to resolve the situation in Ukraine as a sincere attempt to find solutions to the crisis.
