The Western car industry that left Russia is not expected to return "with open arms". This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov on February 20.
"The industry as a whole has received huge opportunities for development. So we see this as an opportunity for development and would not want to give up these opportunities," Alikhanov was quoted by RIA Novosti c Forum of Future Technologies.
Speaking about the manufacturers who left the country, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade noted that "it will be necessary to pay for their behavior".
On the eve of the company "Rex Motors" announced that it plans to start assembling cars of the South Korean brand KGM (former SsangYong) at the plant "Avtotor" in the Kaliningrad region. The start of production is scheduled for the fall of 2025. However, the cars will go on sale in March, they are produced in South Korea. SsangYong cars were sold in Russia since the mid-1990s, in 2018 the brand officially left the market. The company's return to Russia was announced in early November 2024.
On February 14, it was reported that Hyundai Motor Group may consider the option of buying back the plant in St. Petersburg and will make a decision on this by the end of 2025.
