Growth of meat production in Russia was registered
Russia has recorded an increase in meat production, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture told Izvestia on February 20. Thus, in 2024, the production of livestock and poultry for slaughter in farms of all categories increased by 2.1% and reached 16.9 million tons. Positive dynamics has been maintained since the beginning of this year - in agricultural organizations at the end of January the increase amounted to 1.6%.
"For the development of livestock breeding in our country a wide range of measures is provided. Among the tools - preferential revolving and investment lending (up to 15 years), as well as direct measures of support of regional and federal levels," - reported in the Ministry.
It is specified that as a result of stable growth of raw material base the production of food and processing industry is also increasing. Thus, last year, our country produced 2.5 million tons of sausage products (1.6% growth over the previous year), as well as 4.9 million tons of meat and meat-containing semi-finished products (+4.7%) and 913 thousand tons of canned meat (+1.9%).
Overall, self-sufficiency in meat and meat products in Russia exceeds 100%.
"The growth of production in processing is primarily due to an increase in demand for animal protein against the backdrop of rising disposable incomes of the population. According to expert estimates, the growth in consumption of the main types of meat will continue in 2025," summarized the head of the national meat association Sergey Yushin.
Earlier, on January 20, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture reported about the growth of production and export of meat products. The ministry said that self-sufficiency in meat and meat products in Russia exceeds 100%. This not only guarantees domestic food security, but also makes it possible to increase exports.
