The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has recalled the position of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy after French President Emmanuel Macron's words about the "guarantor of peace". She published the corresponding post on February 20 in her Telegram channel.

The "ghost of Napoleonism" is wandering around Europe, Zakharova said, commenting on the French leader's recent post on the social network X (former Twitter). There, Macron promised that France would take full responsibility for peace and security in Europe and called himself the guarantor of that peace.

"What about the fact that a week ago Zelensky declared, "I am the leader of any negotiations"? All these years he claimed to be defending Europe. And no one in the EU corrected him, on the contrary, they gave him money to ensure his own security. Now think who is more important," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman wrote.

On the previous day, Ruslan Andreev, a political consultant and expert at the Polylog Group, noted that Macron, by his statement about his readiness to negotiate with Russia, was trying to become part of the process of resolving the Ukrainian crisis and changing relations between Russia and the United States. According to the expert, the French president is trying to become an ambassador of the European Union's (EU) position on the conflict and later plans to make European taxpayers pay for the defense of the association.
