The Hungarian government plans to discuss with the US leadership the lifting of economic sanctions against Russia, including in the energy sector. Peter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations, who arrived in Washington on a visit, said this in an interview with the M1 TV company on February 19.

"I sincerely hope that today we can move forward with the minister on the issue of sanctions measures that harm Hungary," Fakti.bg quoted the interlocutor as saying.

At the same time, the minister emphasized that he will become what will be the first foreign foreign foreign minister to hold a working meeting with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

"They (sanctions/ - Ed.) clearly harm Hungary's economic interests, violate the security of our energy supply, including investments in the nuclear industry, including the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Paks," Szijjártó said.

Earlier Hungary achieved an exemption from sanctions for oil and raw materials of the Russian Federation. Peter Szijjártó emphasized that despite the fact that the EU sanctions against Russia did not justify themselves and caused significant damage to the European economy, Brussels adopted a new sanctions package under pressure from Poland and other countries. However, important relaxations were envisioned for Hungary.
