During Pancake Day, as well as any other festive feast, it is important to keep balance and moderation. On February 20, Ekaterina Nesvit, a doctor of the highest category, nutritionist, expert of the scientific department of the International Institute of Integrative Nutritionology (IIIN), told "Gazeta.Ru" about it.

The expert recommended experimenting with different types of flour.

"Buckwheat flour will give pancakes not only an interesting taste, but also make them more nutritious, rich in fiber and trace elements. Whole wheat flour will also be a great option: it contains more vitamins and minerals than regular premium wheat flour. And if you want an even lighter option, try using oat flour, rice flour or even coconut shavings to make pancakes," she noted.

In addition to flour, the doctor also recommended replacing toppings with a lot of sugar with berries, fruits and natural honey.

According to Nesvit, during the festive feast it is important to control portions, take your time to chew food, drink enough clean water.

The doctor reminded that Pancake Day is not only treats, but also walks in the fresh air, which help to energize.

"Pancake Day can be not only a delicious and joyful but also a healthy holiday if we adhere to the principles of moderation, balance and informed choices," she concluded.

On February 20, doctors told Izvestia the optimal portion of pancakes for Pancake Day. According to them, to avoid overeating during Shrovetide week, one should eat no more than four pancakes at a time.
