U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the possibility of using the money saved by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to pay off the national debt. He said this on February 19 during the FII Priority Forum, broadcast by the White House.

"There is even a new plan being considered where we will give American citizens 20 percent of the money saved by DOGE and another 20 percent will go to pay down the debt," the U.S. leader said.

Trump also praised DOGE CEO Elon Musk, calling him a "very serious person" with a high IQ. However, he stated that he also has his flaws, but they are "not too many."

On the same day, the FT reported that China has cut its investment in US government debt to its lowest level since 2009. The PRC is the second largest holder of US Treasuries in the world. Japan remains the leader - its portfolio of investments in U.S. government securities at the end of December amounted to $1.06 trillion. Also, Trump admitted that he could deprive Musk of access to government programs in case of a conflict of interest.
