Hockey is the most injury-prone winter sport, accounting for the majority of sports injuries. This was reported to "Gazeta.Ru" on February 19 in the insurance company Ingosstrakh.

The organization conducted a study, polling 6 thousand Russians in 37 cities across the country. According to its results, 25% of athletes are injured as a result of hockey. The company named falling from tubing or skis, collision with a tree while sledding or snowboarding, as well as hitting the ice while skiing down a hill as the most frequent cases of injuries in winter.

It is emphasized that only 2% of respondents had personal experience of first aid in case of injuries, 18% of respondents were familiarized with the rules of its provision. At the same time, 44% of respondents cannot render first medical aid on their own, and 36% found it difficult to give an answer to this question.

Vitaly Skakun, a doctor of the highest category, orthopedic traumatologist of the flagship center "Bud Zdorov" on Ryazansky Prospekt, called the unpreparedness of the majority to provide first aid a serious problem, since timely medical intervention can help reduce the risk of complications or, moreover, save a life.

According to the survey, in the current winter season, about 4% of Russian adults took up skiing for the first time, another 3% took up ice skating, and about 2% of Russians tried snowboarding and hockey for the first time. Skakun specified that in advance a doctor checks contraindications to physical activity in a person who wants to try a sport, as a timely examination can help detect hidden problems.

"The specialist will give recommendations on muscle strengthening, proper warm-up and equipment. Depending on your age, fitness level and health condition, the doctor will tell you which sports are preferable and which are better to avoid," the doctor added.

Andrei Isaev, founder of the DNAOM laboratory, shared with Izvestia on February 14 that winter sports have many advantages that make them attractive for people of all ages and fitness levels. Thus, the expert noted the strengthening of the immune system as a result of regular outdoor sports, the production of endorphins, but the most important advantage he called the high intensity of physical activity, which contributes to the effective burning of calories.
