The armies of the right wing of the 1st Ukrainian Front reached the Neisse River on February 24, 1945, reports the Izvestia newspaper.

As a result of the operation, the Soviet troops seized Lower Silesia. The capture of the territory took place from February 8 to 24, 1945.

"The triumph of this victory is strengthened by the fact that it was won by our troops in the Silesian direction," reads the material published on February 25, 1945.

Exactly 74 days remained until the Great Victory.

During the East Pomeranian operation, the 19th Army of the 2nd Belorussian Front broke through the main line of enemy defense and by the end of the day advanced by 10-12 km. The width of the breakthrough reached 20 km. On the left flank of the 19th Army in the battle entered the 3rd Guards Cavalry Corps.

The material was published as part of Izvestia special project "80 Days to Victory".
