Former Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh businessman Ruben Vardanyan went on hunger strike after the beginning of the trial in Azerbaijan. This is reported in his Telegram channel on February 19.

"Yesterday I decided to protest in the form of a hunger strike against the judicial farce. This is my response to the gross violations of international and Azerbaijani procedural law," Vardanyan wrote.

The former state minister emphasized that the events taking place in the courtroom "are a political show" that "demonstratively ignores" his rights to a fair trial, Gazeta.Ru reported.

Vardanyan was accused of illegally crossing the Azerbaijani border, financing terrorism, creation and participation in the activities of illegal armed groups.

Earlier, January 17, it was reported that the trial of 16 representatives of the former leadership of Nagorno-Karabakh started in Baku. They are charged with war crimes, terrorism and financing of terrorism, murder, creation of illegal armed formations and other episodes.
