An interdepartmental commission will be set up in Armenia to coordinate the revision of the country's national security strategy. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed an order to this effect on February 19.

As follows from the document on the government website, the commission will include representatives of the leadership of the National Security Service, the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the Foreign Intelligence Service and other agencies. Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan will become its chairman.

Armenia's current national security strategy was formulated in July 2020. It prescribes national values, interests and goals. The eight central points emphasize that the Armenian nation has overcome many historical disasters, has become stronger and was able to restore its independence.

Earlier, on February 12, the Armenian parliament adopted in the first reading a draft on Armenia's accession process to the European Union. The European Commission told Izvestia on February 11 that the process of Yerevan's rapprochement with the EU is gaining momentum, but it has not yet submitted an official application to join the association.

At the same time, Ruslan Andreev, political consultant and expert at Polylog Group, told Izvestia that the draft law on Armenia's accession to the EU is of zero value and threatens the country's national interests. He also emphasized that Armenia's energy and food security is based on good relations with Russia: 40% of Armenian exports go to Russia.
