"As you know, Ukraine, despite talk of its enormous potential, does not possess the reserves of key rare earth elements that [US President] Donald Trumpis seeking," he wrote in a Bloomberg piece.

Blas emphasized that Kiev can offer the United States only small scandium mines that exist on the territory of the country. At the same time, he specified that the American geological service also does not call Ukraine the owner of large reserves.

According to the journalist, if there were large deposits on Ukrainian territory, they would not become so valuable, Gazeta.Ru specified. However, Blas admitted that Washington may know "something that others do not know."

The Economist magazine reported on February 16 that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was given an hour of time to consider Trump's plan to appropriate the state's rare earth resources in exchange for financial and military aid from the U.S. side. As a result, the Ukrainian side agreed to a delay in execution.

The Financial Times newspaper said on February 18 that the head of the Kiev regime made a strategic mistake by not stating the total value or any specifics of the deal. According to an unnamed official, Zelensky's proposal to hand over control of the minerals to the United States was "designed as bait" for Trump.
