Presidential elections in Ukraine may be held in 2025. Alexander Konkov, an associate professor of the political science department at the Finance University under the Government of the Russian Federation, made this assumption on Wednesday, 19 February.

According to him, there is a willingness on the American side to bring the situation to the point where it is highly probable to hold elections in Ukraine this year.

"The question is in what period this year. Based on the statements that are heard from the American side, we can say that the Trump administration sees the final settlement precisely in signing documents, which, of course, have yet to be agreed upon after the elections in Ukraine," the expert said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.

According to the political analyst, US President Donald Trump's statement about the four percent rating of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shows Washington's great doubts about holding peace talks in the conditions of such a low rating.

"Therefore, the elections will be pushed through one way or another. The leadership of the Kiev regime will try to postpone them. At the same time, the fact that the final settlement of the crisis will depend on this date will become quite an active information campaign in the current conditions," he concluded.

Earlier, Trump spoke in favor of holding elections of the head of state in Ukraine, pointing to the low level of support for Vladimir Zelensky by the population, according to the website kp.ru.

The American leader emphasized that Zelensky's rating among Ukrainians has fallen to 4%, RT reports.

Trump said that the issue of holding elections in Ukraine is not solely Russia's demand, but is of concern to many states, Regnum news agency reported.

Earlier on February 19, The Guardian noted that Trump criticized Zelensky for his reaction to Kiev's exclusion from the negotiations between the United States and Russia. The publication noted that the Ukrainian leader's comments apparently angered Trump, after which he said that Ukraine could have "made an agreement" to prevent a conflict, Moscow 24 reported.

A day earlier, the media reported Zelensky's statement that Kiev would not accept any results of the talks between Russia and the United States because no representative of the Ukrainian side was present at the meeting.
