Over the past day, 212 traffic accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 10 people were killed and 249 injured. Five of the dead were drivers and passengers of vehicles. This was reported to "Izvestia" on Wednesday, February 19, in the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The collision of a passenger car with an electric locomotive through the fault of an inexperienced car driver, whose driving experience did not exceed three months, occurred at a railroad crossing near Kazan in the Republic of Tatarstan. Late in the evening on the regional highway "Kazan - Malmyzh - Kachklino", a 19-year-old motorist decided to skip the railroad crossing at a prohibited traffic signal, but collided with an electric locomotive, which was pulling a train of two passenger cars. As a result of the accident the young driver died.

Analysis of accidents at railway crossings shows that such accidents most often occur at unregulated crossings, where drivers, not convinced of the safety of the maneuver, trying to pass in front of a closely following train, noted in the department. Trying to win a few seconds, they often endanger not only their own lives, but also the lives and health of their own passengers, railroad personnel, passengers of electric trains and long-distance trains.

The traffic police reminded motorists of the importance of compliance with the rules of passing railway crossings, as this maneuver is considered dangerous and requires the driver's focus and maximum attention. Thus, in the traffic rules there is a direct prohibition of crossing the railroad tracks outside the crossing. The maneuver is impossible when the barrier is closed or closing, or when the traffic light signal or the crossing officer is prohibited.

Stopping or parking vehicles at the crossing is also strictly prohibited, as it creates a real threat of collision with a train. If this happens in emergency conditions, for example, when a car breaks down, the driver must immediately remove people from the vehicle, remove them to a safe distance and take measures to clear the crossing - tow or push the car off the rails. In addition, the driver moving through the railway crossing should be extremely careful in the dark, as well as in adverse weather conditions and limited visibility, emphasized the State Traffic Inspectorate.

With the participation of buses on Tuesday, 17 accidents were recorded, in which two people were killed, another 21 road users were injured. The cause of eight accidents with buses were violations of traffic rules committed by their drivers. As a result of 71 accidents, 35 of which occurred at crosswalks and 36 out of their zone of action, five pedestrians were killed, 69 more were injured of varying severity. Among the victims - 20 children under the age of 16 years, 13 of whom were injured through the fault of drivers when crossing the roadway in designated areas.

Also 27 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 28 young road users were injured, including eight passengers. There were no children killed.

"We urge parents to control the behavior of their young children, in no case letting them go out alone, unsupervised, especially in the evening. To improve their visibility for drivers of vehicles be sure to use on children's outerwear, backpacks and sports bags light-reflecting elements. Lack of parental control over the behavior and leisure of children of preschool and primary school age often leads to injury or death of young road users", - said "Izvestia" deputy head of the department of road safety propaganda and prevention of child traffic injuries of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, police colonel Anton Belan.

In addition, motorists are advised to be more attentive on the roads of settlements and cities, to take into account the requirements of markings, road signs and traffic signals. People behind the wheel should be especially careful when passing intersections and approaching crosswalks. They should slow down in front of them until they come to a complete stop to allow pedestrians crossing the roadway to pass. The behavior of children and the elderly on the road is often unpredictable, so you should not be in a hurry to resume driving even at the permissive traffic signal - it is important to make sure that the crossing is completely free of pedestrians, added Belan.

February 17, it was reported that the total amount of fines for traffic violations in 2024 amounted to 176.3 billion rubles. A total of 255 million rulings were issued, and 93% of them were issued automatically by photo-video fixation complexes.
