Lavrov called Trump a completely independent politician with his own opinions
US President Donald Trump is a completely independent politician, and such people usually do not hide what they think about such "pathetic individuals" like Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on February 19.
As the foreign minister noted, no one has any reason to believe that President Trump is doing anything to please anyone.
"This is excluded. He is an absolutely independent politician. Besides, he is also a person who is used to talking straight. And such people usually do not hide their opinions about pathetic personalities like Mr. Zelensky," Lavrov said.
He also added that if we talk about relations between the US and Europe, it should be understood that Washington has nothing against the European Union (EU) countries.
"The US wants Europe not to build a Brussels bureaucracy and not to demand that each country 'follow the party line', but that each national member state of the EU can defend and represent its national interests," the Russian foreign minister summarized.
Earlier on February 19, The Guardian noted that Trump criticized Zelensky for his reaction to Kiev's exclusion from the talks between the United States and Russia. The publication noted that the Ukrainian leader's comments apparently angered Trump, after which he said that Ukraine could have "made an agreement" to prevent a conflict.
A day earlier, the media reported Zelenskyy's statement that Kiev would not accept any results of the talks between Russia and the United States because no representative of the Ukrainian side was present at the meeting.
