Zakharova ironically asked about the EU's readiness to pay Ukraine's debt to the US

The European Union (EU) has already started discussing its readiness to help Ukraine after the end of the US funding, without taking into account that Kiev is still in debt to Washington and will have to pay it a large sum of money. This question was asked ironically by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on February 19.
"I wonder if the EU will also pay $350 billion in debt to the states for Ukraine? Developing the Anglo-Saxon classic: "There is no sadder tale in the world than the tale of Brussels and the budget," the diplomat wrote in her Telegram channel.
The discussions on this topic in the European Union were reported by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. He noted that Hungary supports a ceasefire and the restoration of peace, from which the economy will only have to strengthen.
"The Americans are refusing to finance Ukraine, and Brussels will want to make Europeans, including us Hungarians, pay for it. There is already a proposal on the table that we Hungarians should give Ukraine 200 billion forints (€500 million) a year," the Magyar Nemzet newspaper quoted him as saying.
The politician noted that Ukraine had not been given any preconditions for EU membership, so such financial support was out of the question.
Earlier, on 18 February, the director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's International Organizations Department, Kirill Logvinov, said that the results of the Munich conference made it clear that the EU intended to seek a forceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine rather than trying to resolve the situation peacefully.
At the same time, the Politico newspaper reported about the EU's €6bn aid package for Ukraine. It is indicated that EU members will be able to provide both equipment and money for the aid package. On 16 February, the Bloomberg agency also reported that Europe would not announce a new military aid packagebefore the parliamentary election in Germany, which will be held on 23 February.
