In Crimea discussed the reduction of the number of stray animals

Deputies of the Crimean State Council have discussed amendments to the republican law "On the responsible treatment of animals". The purpose of the initiative is to strengthen control over the number of stray animals in the region, the press service of the parliament reported on Wednesday, February 19.
Local residents are very concerned about the large number of stray dogs and cats on the streets of towns and villages, said Svetlana Shabelnikova, head of the Committee on Ecology and Natural Resources.
"We have made the first step in the issue concerning the registration and identification of stray and domestic animals. We plan to create a working group and attract the public, deputies and administrations of municipalities to discuss the initiative," the parliamentarian added.
According to her, the mayoralties of Sudak and Simferopol signed contracts for the capture, vaccination and sterilization of stray animals later than other municipalities. This may lead to an increase in the number of homeless animals. The committee recommended signing the documents by April 30.
As SevastopolMedia IA notes, the amendments to the law also expand the functions of municipalities and the possibilities of temporary animal confinement centers.
Earlier "Izvestia" wrote that Russia started using biometric identification to keep track of pets and those without owners. So far, the pilot project is operating in three regions - the Leningrad and Smolensk Regions, as well as the Perm Territory.
