US President Donald Trump criticized Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky as the master of his vassal, accusing Kiev of conflict with Russia. This was stated to "Izvestia" on February 19 by Elena Afanasyeva, a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.

The day before, on February 18, during a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, Trump accused Zelensky and his team of allowing the Ukrainian conflict to continue. According to him, even a mediocre negotiator could have reached an agreement with Russia.

According to the senator, the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine for Trump is indeed a global task in foreign policy. However, we should not forget that the American leader is guided primarily by the interests of the United States, she emphasized.

"This is such a moralizing of a master to his vassal. <...> [The US] did not just help unleash the Ukrainian conflict, they sponsored it in every possible way. What does it matter who was the president there (in the U.S. - Ed.)? America is America, which thinks only about its own interests, and they do not care much about the interests of others," Afanasyeva said.

She suggested that the USA expects that the negotiation process on the Ukrainian crisis can bring great benefits for the USA.

At the same time, so far the West has not stopped financing Kiev, which is important for the conflict resolution, Afanasyeva emphasized.

"It is necessary for both the Old and New World to stop financing the Ukrainian neo-Nazi regime," the member of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs emphasized.

In addition, at the past press conference, Trump said that Kiev could not account for where it spent the funds transferred by Washington. The American president noted that he is concerned about this issue.

Earlier in the day, Zelensky said that Kiev will not accept any results of negotiations between Russia and the United States. According to him, this is impossible without the participation of representatives of Ukraine and the European Union (EU) in meetings on the topic of settlement. At the same time, on February 19, Trump noted that Ukraine needs to hold elections to earn a place at the negotiating table.
