AvtoVAZ has been aware of the Takata airbag issue since the middle of the last decade, and in 2018 already conducted a recall of potentially problematic Lada Granta, Kalina and Priora to check and repair the safety systems if necessary. The problem was completely ruled out. This was reported to Izvestia by the press service of AvtoVAZ when asked to comment on the call to conduct a recall of Lada cars to replace Takata airbags.

"When creating Vesta together with Takata specialists, technical solutions were initially applied in the car, which excluded the appearance of low-quality airbag parts on serial cars. False airbag deployments are not recorded. currently airbags are supplied by alternative suppliers", - said at AvtoVAZ.

Earlier in the day, the National Automobile Union (NAC) called for a set of supervisory measures to establish the degree of danger of using Takata airbags in Lada cars. Representatives of NAC believe that the Ministry of Internal Affairs should analyze the materials of criminal cases initiated by the results of accidents with deaths and injuries involving Lada cars with Takata airbags.

Japanese company Takata filed for bankruptcy in 2017. The potentially dangerous airbags were installed on cars from more than 30 brands, with more than 60 million cars recalled to service as part of the recall campaigns around the world.

On February 19, Anton Shaparin, vice president of the National Automobile Union (NAC), said that Russia should increase responsibility for the deliberate refusal to wear seat belts. It is necessary to consider amendments to the legislation, which would force injured drivers, if they did not wear seat belts and suffered in an accident, to pay for medical services at their own expense, the interlocutor said.
